A book: Lady Macbeth by Ava Reid -- Macbeth is my least favourite Shakespeare, and I don't like horror, but I did enjoy this AU. It's neatly divided in five which made it ideal for scheduling and bathtub reading. What a normcore compliment, lol. Also, she's a dragonfucker. Sadly, did not fuck a dragon (I don't want to falsely advertise this book), but it certainly seemed like she might, at one point. And who knows what the future might hold?!

unrelatedly: A squirrel!

I put out watermelon so that I could take pics of them eating it with their tiny cute hands but they just DUMPED IT ON THE GRASS and ate the sunflower seeds and then dug a giant hole in my peppers

Whew! I’ll be making my Guest of Honor run at Readercon this coming weekend in Burlington, MA! It’s me and P. Djeli Clark in the GoH seats, with legions of super-smart sf/f writers and editors on the program, including Max Gladstone, Rob Cameron, Catherine Lundoff, John Chu, Laura Antoniou, Erin Roberts, Sarah Pinsker, Shariann Lewitt and many many more.

As expected, my schedule will be PACKED. Of note: I added a second autographing slot because of concerns that the first one happens soooo early. I will not have a table selling books: you can get them in the bookshop from Sally at Larry Smith Booksellers and some will also be on the Broad Universe table.

And yes, there will be some copies of the new shiny beautiful Magic University Collectors Edition hardcover. (And if you ordered a copy via Kickstarter, check your email for an update about picking up the book in person if you want to! Or just come to a party!)

Nothing to report re: media, as I'm in the middle of a book (Lady Macbeth by Ava Reid) and nothing else! (Aside from a lot of language stuff, many many many language stuff.)

But! Ghost was by! If you recall, I was very worried about her super swollen face last time I saw her (the 21st) and on the 7th she was by, finally. All healed up and everything!

LOL the haze is the petunias she's standing behind - fucked my white balance, but I thought it looked cool anyway:

It has been chaos around here lately, but HIIII

It's Book Swap Day* at the library. Last time I was lucky and found both volumes of a book by one of my favourite authors. This time I came out with almost the whole Masters of Rome series plus a bonus one about Troy, all by Colleen McCullough. Only the last one is missing from the Masters of Rome series. I'm sure I can source that some other how when I get that far. There's a lot of text to get through first. I have never actually read anything by this author before, but hey, there's literally nothing to lose by not trying and if I don't like them, they can just go back again.

*This is awesome. They do it I think once a month. You can donate books you don't want anymore (there are a few exceptions that they don't want) and you can take any books that seem interesting to you. It doesn't cost anything and you don't have to bring a book to take a book. I've found some gold nuggets there! (And a few regrets. Last time I stupidly didn't take the full set of 1001 Nights. 16 volumes. I think they were even illustrated. I don't know what I was thinking)
